Meet Author J.L. Campbell and Find Out What She's Thankful For

11/19/2018

This month we're going to introduce you to one of our authors every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Each short interview ends with what they're thankful for because, it is after all almost Thanksgiving, and the time of year when we often reflect.

Here's J.L. Campbell telling us what she's currently working on and more!

When you were a kid, what career did you want to have?
I’m not even ashamed to admit that when I was growing up, I had no idea what I wanted to be. For a bit, when people asked me, I’d say I wanted to be a teacher. But, I knew I didn’t have the patience to teach anybody anything. The irony is that several years ago, I conducted writing workshops for a short stint.

What genres do you like to read?
My first love is romance, in particular I enjoy romantic suspense. I also enjoy thrillers and women’s fiction, but I’ll read almost anything.

If all your clothes had to be one color forever, what color would you pick?
Purple. Doesn’t matter what shade.

Writing-wise, what are you working on?
I’m half-way through the second book in the In Medias Res series, The Heart of Things. Khalila and Douglas are now settling into their relationship, but some storms are brewing on the horizon. They want each other, and their life together, but they also need different things which make their relationship a bit rocky.

What’s the best part about being a writer?
I absolutely love getting a flash of inspiration and then building an entire world and story around that one spark, knowing that readers will appreciate the end product. It is plain fun (and humbling) doing something I enjoy that touches the lives of others in a meaningful way.

What are you thankful for?
I’m thankful for good health, family, friends, faith, and a happy life. I’m also grateful for the gift of storytelling and that I have the opportunity to share my writing with readers.  It’s wonderful being able to let my imagination run with no limits.
